The Leah Miriam Chessed Program

Mrs. Tova Schild, Chessed Program Coordinator

The Leah Miriam Chessed Program of MBCM was founded during the Shloshim of Leah Miriam Hayman A’H – a fitting memory for a woman whose life revolved around helping others. The Chessed Program sends high school girls to families in the greater Monsey, Spring Valley, Morristown and other neighboring communities to help them with a variety of needs.

Some girls spend Thursday night in the kitchen helping “the family” prepare Shabbos. Others help with homework, home organization or giving parents of large families a much needed break.

Families who have Chessed volunteers have reported their children wait excitedly for their “girls” to come weekly. One family said “it is so much calmer on Friday afternoons. The girls help with preparing for Shabbos has added to our “Shabbos Menucha.” Another family said their Shabbos food has never been so delicious.

MBCM girls are also involved in the Friendship Circle in Morristown and working with special needs children in their homes in Monsey.

Encouraging girls to give of their own time and effort, practicing Ahavas Yisroel by participating in the Leah Miriam Chessed Program, is an integral part of the chinuch given at Monsey Beis Chaya Mushka. Through this program the girls are making a true impact on our community and preparing themselves for a life of Chessed and helping others.
